The Church at Bents Green

Eco-church

The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it; the world, and all who live in it… Psalm 24 vs 1

At The Church at Bents Green we are committed to caring for God's creation. Information on our Eco-church bronze award and rewilding projects are set out below. If you are interested in supporting us with this important work then please get in touch with us via our contact us page here

A Rocha is a network of Christian organisations present in more than 20 countries in six continents. Its focus is caring for God’s earth. As one of a range of activities, A Rocha UK helps churches assess how much they do to support the environment and sustainability in 5 areas of church life: Worship and teaching; Management of church buildings; Management of church land; Community and global engagement; and Lifestyle. A group of church members has completed the survey together, and we have made enough progress to be awarded the Eco Church bronze award. This is pleasing, and will, we hope, be a catalyst for going on to achieve the silver and gold awards. More information can be found on the A Rocha website here: https://ecochurch.arocha.org.uk/

Re-wilding project

As part of our commitment to caring for God’s creation Bents Green church are re-wilding the "Knowle Lane" part of our garden. We have planted some wildflowers to encourage bees and butterflies and we are letting most of the grass grow to see what flowers will emerge. However, we will keep a mown strip for you to walk along to see the wild flowers! We hope to create a log pile for bugs to hide in, some water sources, and we are considering planting some fruit trees.

We realise it doesn't look as neat as it did in previous years but we hope you enjoy seeing what happens when nature is allowed to take over and maybe you might like to try doing the same in some part of your own garden?
